A night at Dunn Tire Park

Baseball is big in the SOP household. So one of the first things we did this spring was rustle up some tickets for a few Bisons games. Saturday night’s game against Scranton was our first outing of the year. In fact, it was the first ever Bisons game for everyone in our party, except me. And as a repat, the last time I went to a Bisons game it was still called Pilot Field.

As luck would have it, we arrived early enough to catch the completion of Friday night’s game that was suspended by fog in the 9th inning. Then we were treated to a suspenseful game 2. It was a great night (the rain notwithstanding). The Bisons picked up two wins and we all had a blast. And for the cost-conscious, we stuffed ourselves, bought some souvenirs, and had great third-row seats behind third base for the price of dinner and a movie.

After the jump, some highlights of the trip, including ‘live’ appearances from various Star Wars characters. And yes, Darth Vader did throw out the first pitch.

I’ve seen Star Wars, but I can only guess who these people are supposed to be in these photos. But they weren’t shy about posing for pictures with the crowd.

Hey look, kids, a former NL All-Star now hitting a buck sixty in Triple-A!

The Bisons won the first game in the 10th on a pinch-single by Todd Linden.

Bisons manager Torey Lovullo, taken from our seats.

In the second inning, a flash of lightning reminiscent of Roy Hobbs prefaced a steady downpour and an appearance by the Bisons groundskeeping crew.

We headed for higher ground during a 48-minute rain delay…

We like it so much we spent the rest of the game up there. The Bisons won the nightcap 3-0 behind the 1-hit pitching of Matt Ginter and Brian Slocum.
